Being downsized by Corporate America has it's benefits; for instance, the creation of Great Waters Brewing Company. The brew pub opened in March of 1997 in the Historic Hamm Building in downtown Saint Paul, just in time for St Patrick's Day. Coincidence? Not when the owner, Sean O'Byrne is Irish!

At the time, Saint Paul was considered a sleepy little suburb of "that city across the river" and many wondered if our pub could survive. My how times have changed. With the expansion of several major employers in the area, a booming theatre district, the addition of several new restaurants, the completion of the RiverCenter and building of the Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul has completely transformed itself. Obviously, the opening of Great Waters was the catalyst that sparked this resurgence in economic activity.

Located in the Historic Hamm Building, it offers great views of the beautiful city of Saint Paul. The building rests on the original site of the St. Paul Cathedral, where we are blessed with a natural spring well. The secret to our fabulous hand-crafted beer... holy water from the well!

Speaking of beer, we have created over eighty five different beers and have won numerous awards, including a Gold Medal from the Real Ale Festival for our Old Bastard Ale. Our brewer, Bob DuVernois, has over eight years of brewing experience and on any given day, we will have up to NINE of our own hand-crafted beers, including 4 properly cellared cask-conditioned ales ready to serve. All are superb!

If you would rather be outdoors, Great Waters has the best patio in town! Whether it's enjoying a pint among the summer breezes, or sitting on our Ice Patio, carved from large blocks of ice during the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, you will experience great beer, great food, and great surroundings at Great Waters Brewing Company.

Enjoy, and thanks for stopping in!
